About the Course

This workshop has been developed through co-design with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations to honour the lived experience of workers who bring their own stories of trauma, healing, and resilience into their professional practice. It recognises that many in the workforce are “wounded healers”—those who walk alongside others in pain while carrying their own histories of hurt, strength, and recovery.

Through a blend of experiential and evidence-based therapeutic approaches, this training supports participants to safely explore how personal experience can inform and strengthen their practice. The focus is on transforming trauma into wisdom, developing wellbeing plans that protect against burnout, and embedding reflective, culturally safe practices at individual, team, and organisational levels.

Participants will:

  • Explore the concept of the “wounded healer” and the role of self-awareness in healing work.

  • Integrate personal experience with evidence-based therapeutic approaches in a culturally safe framework.

  • Develop individual, team, and organisational safety and wellbeing plans to sustain long-term practice.

  • Recognise and challenge systems and dynamics that contribute to silencing or marginalising trauma.

  • Learn to use lived experience as a resource for connection, empathy, and authentic engagement.

  • Foster a culture of collective care, reflection, and growth within the workplace.

Who should attend:Professionals and community workers across all sectors who have experienced trauma—personally or vicariously—and who wish to deepen their reflective practice, strengthen resilience, and use lived experience meaningfully and safely in their work.
